As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
AseraCare of Omaha has an ongoing need for volunteers who will provide regular weekly or twice-monthly visits to our patients who are terminally ill. For some of these patients, these visits relieve family members so they can get out for much needed respite. For most patients - they simply appreciate visitors who will spend time with them sharing favorite readings, watching tv, playing games, or allowing them to reminisce. Families sometimes provide visits together - bringing what we like to call "kid therapy" to patients. Some volunteers bring special gifts - pets, musical skills, light massage, and art to play in their outreach to our patients.
AseraCare goes to patients where they live - our service area is all of the Omaha metro area and the seven surrounding counties - particularly in Plattsmouth, Valley, Blair, Fremont, Oakland and Tekamah
