Make a Difference in the Life of a Child!

Thank you for your interest in the Kids' FIRST Center! Volunteering here is a great experience that allows for a lot of personal and professional growth. As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to work hands-on with child victims of abuse and their loved ones, providing advocacy, support, and information. Volunteers are an integral and valued part of the team, and we hope you will consider applying to join us. As a nonprofit, the Center serves victims of child abuse (physical, sexual, and child witnesses of domestic violence). We provide medical examinations and forensic interviewing of child victims, as well as help to ensure their emotional and other needs are met through information and referrals. All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and will be subject to criminal & child welfare background checks. Initial training is 36 hours, and volunteers are asked to commit 8 hours per week during business hours for a period of one year. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. till 5 p.m.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Kids' FIRST Center is to help lessen the trauma experienced by abused children going through the criminal justice system.

Description

The Kids' FIRST Center opened its doors in September of 1994 as a free-standing, private non-profit organization with a board of directors and under the direct supervision of the Lane County District Attorney's Office. The Center offers a warm, non-threatening setting where child victims can give videotaped interviews about their experiences, receive medical exams to aid in criminal investigations and testify before the grand jury. The Center also provides referrals to agencies throughout the community to help meet the financial, mental and physical health needs of victims and their non-offending family members and offers educational support groups for parents of sexually abused children.
