VITAS' Memory Bear Volunteers make home-sewn bears with compassion and love to ease a hurting heart after the death of a VITAS patient. The bears come from items of the patient's clothing: a favorite button down shirt, t-shirt, suit, pair of pants, pullover top, dress, etc. A Memory Bear may recall the closeness of a loved one, bring a smile to someone in distress, or offer a sense of security to a child who feels alone after the loss of a grandparent, parent or sibling. The family provides the fabric and VITAS provides the pattern, support and stuffing. Most importantly, the Memory Bear Volunteer provides the creativity. Experienced sewers and tailors only please.
There are many options for volunteering and VITAS appreciates your time. In addition, we also have other sewing projects available including making patriotic fleece throws and facemasks for veteran patients. Description
Volunteers are the heart of VITAS Healthcare, providing friendly, non- medical support to hospice patients and their family or offering support services in the office. We are seeking caring and compassionate individuals to volunteers for our patients in their homes or in nursing facilities in the community.
