KIDZ'NGRIEF is a grief center for children between ages 3 and 18 and the adults who bring them to the program. There are four Children's Groups (Ages 3-5, Ages 6-8, Ages 9-12, And Ages 13-18). Several facilitators share the responsibility within each age group. Planned activities help the children process the grief they feel after the loss of a family member. Sessions run on the 2nd and 4th Mondays from 5:30 until 8:30(families are actually there from 6-7:30). There is a briefing and a debriefing for the volunteers at each meeting. The program is free to the families. Groups are held from Sept.-June and trained volunteers must agree to committing a year to the program. Many of our volunteers have been with it for several years. Bon Secours Hospice sponsors the program, which is open to any child whose loved one died in any way. Some volunteers assist at Mikey's Camp in November each year.

Mission Statement

Bon Secours Hampton Roads

Rooted in our Catholic Health Ministry, we will be known as the leading health care system in providing compassionate and innovative care for the whole person. Through our employees and in collaboration with our physicians and other partners, we will seek to improve the health of our community

Description

Bon Secours Hospice provides an individualized program of physical, emotional, spiritual, and practical care for people in the last phases of a life-limiting illness, with an emphasis on control of pain and other symptoms. The program is reflective of a spirit and idea of caring that emphasizes comfort and dignity for the dying, making it possible for them to remain independent for as long as possible, in familiar surroundings. Hospice care is centered on both the patient and family/caregiver. Hospice personnel respect and respond to the unique differences in family/caregiver, lifestyle, values, and wishes.

Utilizing an interdisciplinary group approach of physicians, nurses, social workers, therapists, homemakers, hospice aides, volunteers, spiritual counselors, bereavement counselors, and others, Bon Secours Hospice provides palliative care in the home, short-term inpatient services, mobilization and coordination of ancillary services, and bereavement support. Services will be equitably distributed to a medically and financially diversified group of patients in a cost-effective manner which ensures adherence to the goals of Bon Secours Hospice and the maintenance of the financial solvency of the organization.

Hospice affirms life.

Hospice exists to provide support and care for persons in the last phases of a life-limiting illness so that they may live as fully and comfortably as possible.

Hospice exists in the belief that through appropriate care and the promotion of a caring community, patients and family/caregivers will be free to attain a degree of mental preparation for death that is satisfying to them.
