Do you like meeting new people and creating new friendships? If you said "yes", then becoming a Friendly Visitor for one of our disabled or senior clients could be a perfect volunteer opportunity for you.
Social Isolation is a problem for many seniors in our community. Many have lost family and friends and they do not have the ability to socialize in their community. Social isolation negatively affects the physical and emotional health of isolated seniors and can shorten their lifespan.
JFS Richmond has a Friendly Visitor program that strives to help with social isolation. Friendly Visitors improve the quality of life of older adults by providing social interaction and emotional support. Friendly Visitors help seniors stay connected with the community and outside world and this allows them to maintain feelings of independence and self worth.
If you have the ability to listen and relate to people in a warm, friendly manner and you are able to tolerate differing opinions and lifestyles, please consider volunteering in this capacity. Friendly Visitors are asked to make a one-year commitment, to have dependable transportation and to consent to a background check. We are looking for Friendly Visitors in the Greater Richmond and Tri-City areas.
