Are you concerned about the climate and want to take action? Youthshare invites you to become an Article Writer for SDG 13: "Climate Action". Your mission will be to research, analyze, and write an impactful article to raise awareness among young people and a wider audience globally about the challenges of climate change, mitigation and adaptation solutions, and the importance of collective action. This is an opportunity to become a voice for climate urgency!
Here's what you'll do specifically:
Research and Monitoring: You'll explore reliable sources (IPCC, UNEP, UNFCCC reports, national meteorological agencies, scientific studies, citizen initiatives) to gather data, statistics, and concrete examples of climate change impacts (extreme weather events, sea level rise), sources of greenhouse gas emissions, and strategies to address them.
Analysis and Synthesis: You'll organize your findings to identify barriers to effective climate action and innovative solutions, adopting a global perspective and emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Article Writing: You'll write an article of 500 to 800 words for our platform. The article should include key facts, concrete examples (e.g., renewable energy projects, local adaptation solutions, youth mobilizations), and calls to action. Your text will be for a young and broader global audience, so it should be accessible, educational, and engaging, avoiding complex jargon.
Relevant angles for your article on SDG 13: Climate Action:
For an impactful and comprehensive article, here are some concrete and current angles you could explore:
Understanding Climate Change: Simply explain the causes of global warming (greenhouse gases, human activities) and its concrete and already visible consequences (heatwaves, floods, droughts, melting ice).
Mitigation: Reducing Our Emissions: Focus on actions aimed at decreasing greenhouse gases. You could discuss the transition to renewable energies (solar, wind), energy efficiency, decarbonized transport, sustainable agriculture, or the role of carbon sequestration.
Adaptation: Adapting to Inevitable Impacts: Examine how communities and countries are preparing for and adapting to the already ongoing effects of climate change (e.g., resilient infrastructure, early warning systems, adapted agricultural practices, coastal protection).
Climate Justice and Vulnerable Populations: Highlight how developing countries and marginalized communities are often most affected by climate change, despite contributing the least to it. Discuss climate finance and international solidarity issues.
The Role of Youth and Citizen Action: Inspire by showing how young people are getting involved (climate strikes, activism, innovations, local projects) and how individual and collective action can push for systemic change.
International Policies and Climate Agreements: Explain the importance of summits like COPs (Conferences of the Parties), agreements like the Paris Agreement, and national emissions reduction targets. What progress has been made and what challenges remain globally?
Technological Innovation: Solutions for the Climate: Present future research and developments (carbon capture, new batteries, climate monitoring technologies, nature-based solutions) that could revolutionize how we produce and consume energy.
We'll provide you with links to key reports (IPCC, UN Environment), tutorials for online research, and a contact person to help you validate your ideas and offer support if needed.
Why Volunteer with Youthshare?Today, at the halfway point of the 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are unfortunately at risk. Successive global crises - pandemics, conflicts, inflation, and the effects of climate change - have slowed, or even reversed, progress in many areas. SDG 13 is of utmost urgency: global temperatures continue to rise, extreme weather events are increasing, and mitigation efforts remain insufficient compared to needs. That's why every contribution matters, and yours can make a real difference.
By volunteering with us, you're not just writing; you're becoming a concrete agent of change. Your article on SDG 13 will be published on the Youthshare platform, reaching thousands of young people and a broader global audience, inspiring them to take action. Your name will be featured on our website's author list, publicly recognizing your contribution. This is a unique opportunity to develop your research, writing, and critical analysis skills, invaluable assets for your studies and future career. You'll enrich your CV with concrete and valuable experience. More importantly, you'll directly contribute to advancing the cause of climate action and inspiring your generation. Join us and become the voice that informs and motivates for a climate-resilient future!

Description
YouthShare Initiatives was born from the profound conviction that the youth of Sub-Saharan Africa are a revolutionary, creative, and present force capable of transforming societies. Our primary objective is to create concrete spaces for young people's expression, decision-making, and action, enabling them to become essential actors in social, economic, and environmental change. Among our flagship programs, we work to bridge the digital divide in rural Africa by equipping young people with essential skills, and we lead the SDG WATCH AFRICA initiative. Our notable achievements include organizing over 50 webinars since our inception, a prestigious invitation to the United Nations in Geneva where three of our members presented our vision for 2045, as well as targeted advocacy campaigns on famine. This year, two of our members also have the honor of representing our association at the Youth Assembly of the World Food Forum of the FAO, demonstrating our continuous commitment and the recognition of our expertise on the international stage.
