Are you convinced that a prosperous economy must go hand in hand with fair and dignified jobs for all? Youthshare invites you to become an Article Writer for SDG 8: "Decent Work and Economic Growth". Your mission will be to research, analyze, and write a relevant article to raise awareness among young people and a wider audience globally about employment issues, labor rights, entrepreneurship, and inclusive growth. This is an opportunity to contribute to a more equitable economic future!

Here's what you'll do specifically:

  • Research and Monitoring: You'll explore reliable sources (reports from the International Labour Organization - ILO, World Bank, Eurostat, research institutions, specialized articles) to gather data, statistics, and concrete examples on the labor market, unemployment (especially youth unemployment), working conditions, the informal economy, and sustainable growth models.

  • Analysis and Synthesis: You'll organize your findings to identify barriers to decent work and inclusive growth, as well as innovative solutions, adopting a global perspective.

  • Article Writing: You'll write an article of 500 to 800 words for our platform. The article should include key facts, concrete examples, and calls to action. Your text will be for a young and broader global audience, so it should be accessible, educational, and engaging, avoiding complex jargon.

Relevant angles for your article on SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth:

For an impactful and comprehensive article, here are some concrete and current angles you could explore:

  • Youth Employment: Challenges and Opportunities: Discuss youth unemployment rates, difficulties in entering the workforce, but also apprenticeship initiatives, vocational training, and entrepreneurship that create opportunities for the new generation.

  • Decent Work: Beyond Wages: Explain what "decent work" means (fair wages, workplace safety, trade union rights, social protection, non-discrimination). You could discuss sectors where decent work is a challenge (e.g., the informal economy, certain manufacturing or agricultural sectors).

  • Circular Economy and Green Jobs: Address how the transition to a more sustainable economy can create new types of jobs (recycling, renewable energy, energy renovation) and transform existing professions, thus contributing to economic growth while protecting the environment.

  • Innovation, Digitalization, and the Future of Work: Examine the impact of new technologies (artificial intelligence, automation) on the labor market. How do these advancements transform required skills and create new professions? What are the challenges in terms of adaptation and training?

  • Social and Solidarity Entrepreneurship: Highlight businesses that, beyond profit, have a positive social or environmental impact. Explain how they create jobs and contribute to more inclusive and ethical growth.

  • The Fight Against Forced Labor and Child Labor: Raise awareness about modern forms of slavery and child labor that persist in many parts of the world, and international efforts to eradicate them.

  • The Role of Public Policies: Analyze how governments can stimulate sustainable economic growth and create decent jobs (labor laws, investments in education and training, support for SMEs).

We'll provide you with links to key reports (ILO, OECD, World Economic Forum), tutorials for online research, and a contact person to help you validate your ideas and offer support if needed.

Why Volunteer with Youthshare?

Today, at the halfway point of the 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are unfortunately at risk. Successive global crises - pandemics, conflicts, inflation, and the effects of climate change - have slowed, or even reversed, progress in many areas. SDG 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth, is particularly challenged by rising youth unemployment, the persistence of informal work, wage inequalities, and precarious working conditions in many regions. That's why every contribution matters, and yours can make a real difference.

By volunteering with us, you're not just writing; you're becoming a concrete agent of change. Your article on SDG 8 will be published on the Youthshare platform, reaching thousands of young people and a broader global audience, inspiring them to take action. Your name will be featured on our website's author list, publicly recognizing your contribution. This is a unique opportunity to develop your research, writing, and critical analysis skills, invaluable assets for your studies and future career. You'll enrich your CV with concrete and valuable experience. More importantly, you'll directly contribute to advancing the cause of decent work and inclusive economic growth for all, and inspiring your generation. Join us and become the voice that informs and motivates for a future where work is a source of dignity and shared prosperity!

Mission Statement

YouthShare Initiatives, governed by French Law of 1901, empowers youth globally. Our mission is to unite, mobilize, and inspire young people via sustainable, collaborative projects, fostering equitable development. We believe youth drive essential change, focusing on leadership training for high-impact social and environmental initiatives. We facilitate international collaboration through dynamic networks, encouraging borderless knowledge sharing. Prioritizing inclusion, we ensure young people from diverse backgrounds are heard and empowered. Our concrete actions support sustainable development via innovative solutions in education, environment, and social innovation, meeting community needs responsibly. YouthShare Initiatives advocates strongly for inclusive policies with international bodies and decision-makers. We champion social inclusion for disadvantaged youth, ensuring active participation and equal opportunities.

Description

YouthShare Initiatives was born from the profound conviction that the youth of Sub-Saharan Africa are a revolutionary, creative, and present force capable of transforming societies. Our primary objective is to create concrete spaces for young people's expression, decision-making, and action, enabling them to become essential actors in social, economic, and environmental change. Among our flagship programs, we work to bridge the digital divide in rural Africa by equipping young people with essential skills, and we lead the SDG WATCH AFRICA initiative. Our notable achievements include organizing over 50 webinars since our inception, a prestigious invitation to the United Nations in Geneva where three of our members presented our vision for 2045, as well as targeted advocacy campaigns on famine. This year, two of our members also have the honor of representing our association at the Youth Assembly of the World Food Forum of the FAO, demonstrating our continuous commitment and the recognition of our expertise on the international stage.
