Are you convinced that gender equality is the key to a fairer and more prosperous world? Youthshare invites you to become an Article Writer for SDG 5: "Gender Equality". Your mission will be to research, analyze, and write an impactful article to raise awareness among young people and a wider audience globally about the issues of women's and girls' rights, empowerment, and the elimination of discrimination. This is a unique opportunity to advance this fundamental cause!

Here's what you'll do specifically:

  • Research and Monitoring: You'll explore reliable sources (UN Women, UNICEF, ILO reports, gender studies, civil society initiatives) to gather data, statistics, and concrete examples of gender inequalities and progress made in various regions worldwide.

  • Analysis and Synthesis: You'll organize your findings to identify persistent barriers to gender equality and innovative solutions, adopting a global and intersectional perspective.

  • Article Writing: You'll write an article of 500 to 800 words for our platform. The article should include key facts, testimonials if possible, and calls to action. Your text will be for a young and broader global audience, so it should be accessible, educational, and engaging, avoiding complex jargon.

Relevant angles for your article on SDG 5: Gender Equality:

For an impactful and comprehensive article, here are several concrete and current angles you could explore:

  • Equality in Education and Health: Beyond access, delve into the quality of education for girls, the persistence of child marriage, access to sexual and reproductive health for all women, and challenges related to maternal health in diverse cultures.

  • Political and Economic Participation: Examine the underrepresentation of women in decision-making spheres (governments, parliaments, corporate boards) and in high-growth economic sectors. Analyze the wage gap, difficulties in accessing property or credit, and the impact of unpaid work (domestic and care work) on women's autonomy.

  • Gender-Based Violence: Address different forms of violence (physical, psychological, sexual, online), their global prevalence, impunity for perpetrators, and prevention and victim support strategies. You could also discuss the impact of conflicts on women and girls.

  • Stereotypes and Social Norms: Discuss the influence of gender stereotypes from childhood, in media, and within families. How do these norms limit individual choices and perpetuate inequalities? Highlight awareness campaigns and positive role models.

  • The Role of Men and Boys: Emphasize the importance of engaging men and boys as allies for gender equality, by combating toxic masculinities and promoting balanced gender roles.

  • Intersectionality of Discriminations: Explain how gender intersects with other factors (ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status) to create multiple discriminations and worsen inequalities for certain categories of women.

  • Innovations and Movements for Equality: Highlight promising initiatives, social movements, legislative advancements, and technologies that contribute to advancing SDG 5, showcasing the diversity of actions carried out worldwide.

We'll provide you with links to key reports (UN Women, UNDP), tutorials for online research, and a contact person to help you validate your ideas and offer support if needed.

Why Volunteer with Youthshare?

Today, at the halfway point of the 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are unfortunately at risk. Successive global crises - pandemics, conflicts, inflation, and the effects of climate change - have slowed, or even reversed, progress in many areas. SDG 5, which aims for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, faces persistent resistance, setbacks in certain acquired rights, and deep structural inequalities. That's why every contribution matters, and yours can make a real difference.

By volunteering with us, you're not just writing; you're becoming a concrete agent of change. Your article on SDG 5 will be published on the Youthshare platform, reaching thousands of young people and a broader global audience, inspiring them to take action. Your name will be featured on our website's author list, publicly recognizing your contribution. This is a unique opportunity to develop your research, writing, and critical analysis skills, invaluable assets for your studies and future career. You'll enrich your CV with concrete and valuable experience. More importantly, you'll directly contribute to advancing the cause of gender equality and inspiring your generation to question norms and build a more equitable future. Join us and become the voice that informs and motivates for a future where equality is a reality for everyone!

Description

YouthShare Initiatives was born from the profound conviction that the youth of Sub-Saharan Africa are a revolutionary, creative, and present force capable of transforming societies. Our primary objective is to create concrete spaces for young people's expression, decision-making, and action, enabling them to become essential actors in social, economic, and environmental change. Among our flagship programs, we work to bridge the digital divide in rural Africa by equipping young people with essential skills, and we lead the SDG WATCH AFRICA initiative. Our notable achievements include organizing over 50 webinars since our inception, a prestigious invitation to the United Nations in Geneva where three of our members presented our vision for 2045, as well as targeted advocacy campaigns on famine. This year, two of our members also have the honor of representing our association at the Youth Assembly of the World Food Forum of the FAO, demonstrating our continuous commitment and the recognition of our expertise on the international stage.
