We are opening a BRAND-NEW Clark County Habitat Store in the Minnehaha neighborhood this Fall! We will be looking for volunteers who can help with special projects in the store before opening and continue with ongoing tasks when the store officially opens.

Respond to this opportunity to be notified when opportunities become available.

What does it mean to volunteer at a Clark County Habitat Store?

Store volunteers help support daily operations by helping receive and process donations, organize and display merchandise, and provide excellent customer service. We value teamwork, kindness, and dedication to the cause of helping our community achieve strength and stability through affordable homeownership - one used hammer, door, washing machine, couch, or toilet at a time! No experience required.

Volunteer Tasks: These are the main ways volunteers help in the store. We encourage you to share your interests and talents with us during this introductory shift so we can help pair you with appropriate tasks and teammates for your future shifts. Volunteer tasks include:

  • Reset Displays: Restock and reorganize sections of the store
  • Processing: Sort donations, tag items, move items to sales floor and sort by type
  • Customer Service: Help customers find items, answer customer questions, and help customers load items into vehicles
  • Sales Floor: Merchandise items to create and maintain a safe and user-friendly shopping experience
  • Special Projects: Repair furniture, help create store displays, store maintenance projects, painting, etc.

Supervisor: All store staff members are responsible for creating a welcoming environment for store volunteers. However, the store volunteer lead and store supervisors will direct most daily tasks with the support of store associates. The manager, assistant manager, and volunteer coordinator will be responsible for formal performance management.

Time Commitment: No minimum shift requirement, but being able to commit to two shifts per month to start out helps volunteers to work more independently after training. Once we're open, we will have volunteer shifts 7 days a week and would love to have you on our team. Shifts occur in 2, 4, or 8-hour blocks from 9am-6pm.

Physical Requirements: All abilities welcome! Store volunteers are often on their feet for up to 2 hours, but we have tasks that can be done seated if needed. Most tasks will include walking, standing, potentially squatting or crouching, pushing carts, and moving items on dollies.

Age Requirements: 14-15 y/o volunteers must be accompanied by an adult 21+ at all times. Volunteers 16-18 do not need an adult, but do need a legal guardian to complete their waiver. Volunteers under 18 are not permitted to use power tools.

We strive for a culture where people of every race, ethnicity, nationality, economic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, size, and disability are welcomed, empowered, and celebrated. Please contact us about any accessibility requirements you have so we can work together to accommodate you.

All store volunteers must complete background check after orientation. We understand this volunteer opportunity will not be the best fit for everyone, and therefore give folks a chance to attend orientation before completing the background check. We cannot accept volunteers with certain histories, including charges within the past 7 years related to theft and/or violence. Thank you for understanding.

About Evergreen Habitat for Humanity

Location:

10811 SE 2nd Street, Vancouver, WA 98664, US

Mission Statement

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, community, and hope. We build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.

Description

We are working towards a world where everyone has a decent place to live by bringing our community together to build homes and hope.

Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible monetary donations and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates homes with the help of the homeowner. Habitat houses are sold to families at no-profit, and financed with an affordable mortgage. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are recycled into a revolving fund called the Fund for Humanity that helps fund future Habitat homes.
