Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower individuals on their journey to recovery by fostering strength, unity, and hope through accessible, affordable, and inclusive mental health care for all.

Description

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Hygieia Behavioral Health Foundation!

We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing accessible, inclusive, and culturally responsive mental health care-especially for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other underserved communities in Los Angeles County. Founded by Dr. Sade Thompson, a Doctor of Psychology and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Hygieia offers a range of services to promote wellness, reduce stigma, and close equity gaps in behavioral health.

Our programs include sliding scale and pro bono therapy, peer-led support groups, trauma-informed workshops, and training/supervision for future therapists. We offer both in-person and virtual services to ensure flexibility and accessibility, and we accept Medi-Cal and other insurance plans to reduce financial barriers to care.

Dr. Thompson also leads therapeutic groups, supervises interns and trainees, and ensures our services meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve. Our team is passionate about fostering long-term mental wellness and reshaping how care is delivered.

As a volunteer, you'll help us reach more people through outreach, events, admin support, or community programming. Your time and skills can make a real impact - we’d love to have you join our mission!
