Position Overview

The Code for Change is seeking a passionate and creative Intro to Coding using Scratch for our 2025 Summer Tech Camp! This instructor will lead engaging, hands-on sessions introducing elementary and middle school campers to coding through Scratch, a fun, visual programming language developed by MIT. The ideal candidate loves working with youth, brings energy and innovation to the classroom, and is committed to making tech education accessible and exciting for all students. Curriculum will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver daily coding workshops using Scratch that teach programming basics (loops, conditionals, events, etc.) through interactive projects and games.
  • Plan and facilitate project-based learning activities tailored to the interests and skill levels of campers (ages 8-13).
  • Create a fun, inclusive, and safe environment where all campers feel encouraged to explore and express themselves through code.
  • Collaborate with other camp staff to support overall camp operations and ensure a smooth daily schedule.
  • Prepare campers for an end-of-camp demo day, where they showcase their Scratch projects to peers and families.
  • Provide individualized support and positive reinforcement to help each camper succeed.
  • Set up and maintain tech equipment, supplies, and digital tools needed for instruction.

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching or working with youth in an educational, camp, or enrichment setting.
  • Strong knowledge of Scratch programming and basic computer science concepts.
  • Energetic, creative, and comfortable leading small to medium-sized groups.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • Commitment to equity in education and enthusiasm for expanding access to tech for underrepresented youth.
  • Preferred background in computer science, education, or youth development. Computer Science students are encouraged to apply!
  • Must submit to background check.

Schedule & Commitment

  • Must be available for training and curriculum prep during the week prior to camp start.
  • Camp runs Monday-Friday. Instructor teaching hours average 4 hours per day.
  • Must be available for the full duration of the camp program.
