Basic Needs volunteers help manage the flow of the laundry and shower services, provide complimentary supplies toguests, clean routinely, and work with staff to keep a smooth flow of services in the laundry and shower areas.
Some of the key responsibilities for this position are:
- Communicate with staff to manage appropriate entry to this area
- Greet guests warmly
- Write guest’s name on designated wipe board to indicate which shower room or laundry machine they are using
- Provide complimentary supplies (towels, toiletries, detergent, fabric softener, etc.)
- Communicate any needed supplies to staff
- Clean routinely following Oak City Cares protocols
- Work with staff and volunteers to manage a steady flow of services

Oak City Cares is a hub for connecting individuals and families, who are at risk of, or are experiencing homelessness, to coordinated services that create a path to stable housing and renewed hope.
We are an independent 501c3, and operate this multi-services hub that brings together an array of Wake County nonprofits ensuring that people experiencing homelessness get onsite help and serving as a bridge to the ongoing resources they need.
Oak City Cares does this by connecting those at risk to coordinated services that create a path to stable housing and renewed hope.
The primary and overarching goal of Oak City Cares is to make homelessness in our community rare, brief and non-recurring.
