About CHAMPAIGN COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS
Location:
1404 W WASHINGTON ST, CHAMPAIGN, IL 61821, US
Mission Statement
The Champaign County Environmental Stewards (CCES) mission is to support the ability of area citizens to responsibly manage materials by advancing improved local options for recycling, composting food scraps, and the safe and convenient disposal of household hazardous waste. CCES fosters local solutions for waste reduction, such as reduction of single-use plastics. CCES provides useful information and resources that assist citizens in these efforts.
Description
CCES is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization established in 2019 to advance improved and convenient options available to area residents to manage unwanted household materials, including difficult-to-dispose-of household items at the end of their useful lifecycle, and products considered as household hazardous waste.
Current CCES Projects include:
♦To better meet residents' needs, CCES seeks to establish and operate a household hazardous waste collection facility in Champaign County. CCES is in the midst of a capital campaign to raise remaining needed funds to build a HHW collection facility to be open part-time, year-round. CCES has raised 43% of its $2.85M campaign goal. There is still much work to be done and CCES volunteers continue their outreach to businesses, government agencies, individuals, and others in the broader community for help in reaching this goal.
♦Develop a local pre-consumer commercial food scrap compost pilot program.
♦Seek support to launch a local source-separated glass bottle/container drop off collection program.
