Volunteer Center Curator: Lighthouse Guild is the leading not-for-profit healthcare organization dedicated to addressing and preventing vision loss. Our mission is to provide exceptional services that inspire people who are visually impaired to attain their goals. With Lighthouse Guild, people who are at risk for, or affected by, vision loss have access to all the resources necessary to lead full, independent, and productive lives. We provide services, research and education, and advocate to help people with low vision and blindness. Our vision is a world in which no person is limited by their visual capacity. The Stephen T. Pearlman Volunteer Center administers the volunteer recruitment, screening and interviewing, orientation, training and education, placement and referral, retention, and recognition processes for Lighthouse Guild. Our current corps of volunteers consists of 600 volunteers who contribute to the success of the organization and carry on the legacy of service of the organization’s founders.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing a catalog (hardcopy, digital) with descriptions and photographs of the memorabilia housed at the Lighthouse Guild
  • Collaborate on decisions regarding the display of selected memorabilia within the organization
  • Follow the creation of the catalog and be able label the pieces
  • Effectively describe the contents of collections and assist users in navigating the display
  • Committed to ensuring the long-term survival of materials and understanding the impact of environmental factors and proper handling techniques

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in art history or a closely related discipline is preferred but not required
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and the ability to download and save digital photographs
  • Outstanding written, communication and organizational skills
  • Creative, proactive self-starter
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Must be available to complete the project

Lighthouse Guild was officially formed in December 2013 when Jewish Guild Healthcare and Lighthouse International merged, to become the leading not-for-profit vision + healthcare organization. Drawing on more than 200 years of combined service, with histories dating back to 1914 and 1905, respectively, Lighthouse Guild’s experience is unmatched.
