Volunteer Position Description:

The Rental Application Review Specialist supports Manatee County families by helping applicants complete the application process to obtain rental and utility assistance. They meet with each applicant to review the rental and utility assistance application packet for completeness and communicate next steps.

Key Responsibilities:

● Using the application document checklist, ensure that applications are complete and copies of all required documents are provided.

● Verify applicant information.

● If the applicant is missing documents, clearly explain what the applicant needs to bring back and the process for another review.

● Communicate the next steps with the applicant.

● Provide guidance on ways to obtain missing documents.

● Accurately record the status of each application in a team spreadsheet .

● Provide brief descriptions of other services offered by Turning Points staff and volunteers.

● Provide feedback to the TDP team on application trends to improve program efficiency.

● Adhere to confidentiality and data protection policies when handling sensitive applicant information.

Special Skills/Requirements:

We deal with a diverse clientele, and it is important to be able to see things from the client’s point of view and be comfortable interacting with them. You must be professional at all times, tolerant but determined, and be comfortable making difficult decisions, including saying "No" to clients in crisis situations when necessary.

● Basic computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Suite (Google Sheets)

● Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

● Ability to communicate clearly via phone, in person, and with written media

● Understanding of or willingness to learn about rental assistance programs and eligibility criteria

● Able to sit for long periods of time
