A Mentor A Promise Program
Location: Hybrid - NYC preferred
Part-Time Volunteer Role (8-12 hours/week)
Start Date: Fall 2025
Reports to: Program Director, The Promise of Art

About The Promise of Art

The Promise of Art is a multidisciplinary arts initiative that serves young people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, and school disconnection. Through theater, poetry, painting, music, and movement, youth reclaim their voices and create new possibilities.

As a program of Mentor A Promise, we believe that each act of creation is a seed, and each voice a light-helping break the cycle of invisibility and guide youth toward healing, learning, and belonging.

About the Volunteer Director Role

We are looking for a compassionate, organized, and mission-aligned Volunteer Director to support the recruitment, onboarding, training, and celebration of the amazing volunteers who bring The Promise of Art to life.

You’ll help build the team that helps build the stage-ensuring youth are surrounded by consistent, caring adults who show up with love and purpose.

Key Responsibilities Volunteer Management
  • Recruit, onboard, and schedule volunteer facilitators, assistants, and showcase helpers

  • Maintain communication and calendar systems for active volunteers

  • Match volunteers to appropriate roles based on skills, interest, and availability

Training & Culture
  • Lead short volunteer orientations (virtual or in-person)

  • Help develop trauma-informed, anti-oppressive training materials

  • Support ongoing volunteer development and community-building activities

Showcase & Workshop Support
  • Coordinate volunteer roles at showcases, exhibitions, and special events

  • Ensure volunteers are prepared, supported, and reflective of the program’s mission

  • Gather feedback and support volunteer retention

Administration
  • Track volunteer hours and create simple reports for funders/partners

  • Collaborate with the Program Director on documentation, outreach, and celebration

  • Help build a joyful, welcoming culture rooted in dignity, equity, and care

You Are:
  • A great communicator and relationship-builder

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and values-aligned

  • Passionate about the arts, education, and youth power

  • Comfortable leading in diverse spaces and supporting people across identities

  • Experience working with volunteers, in the arts, or in housing-related fields is a plus

  • Lived experience with housing insecurity or system involvement is deeply valued

We connect students with our mentors for in-person and online programs.
