The World Disaster Center (WDC) is an international organization dedicated to ending disasters through innovative and resilient disaster management. The Fundraising Officer, reporting to the Head of Grants and Partnerships, engages communities online and on the ground, creates compelling fundraising content, and drives grassroots efforts to raise funds for WDC’s mission. This role offers the rewarding opportunity to be a global ally and hero in WDC’s world-changing story, with potential for future funding as the organization grows.

Responsibilities
  • Reach out to communities online (e.g., social media, crowdfunding platforms) and on the ground (e.g., local events, networks) to promote WDC’s mission and secure donations.
  • Create engaging content, such as social media posts, videos, and stories, to inspire individuals and organizations to support WDC’s efforts to end disasters.
  • Organize and promote fundraising campaigns and events, both virtual and in-person.
  • Build relationships with donors, community groups, and online audiences to expand WDC’s fundraising network.
  • Collaborate with the Communication Officer to align fundraising content with WDC’s messaging.
  • Track and report fundraising activities and outcomes to the Head of Grants and Partnerships, ensuring transparency.
  • Engage with potential supporters with enthusiasm and authenticity to amplify WDC’s impact.

Education

No formal education requirement; a high school diploma or equivalent is sufficient. Relevant experience or skills in fundraising, content creation, or community engagement are prioritized.

Work Experience
  • Experience in fundraising, community outreach, or content creation (e.g., social media, video editing), preferably in a humanitarian context, with a passion for WDC’s mission.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, crowdfunding tools, or event organization is an advantage.
  • Ability to engage diverse audiences in a remote environment.
  • Commitment to a minimum of 6 months, giving your best as a world-changing hero.
Languages
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language (e.g., French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian) is an advantage.
Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a review of their vision statement (cover letter or video) and a competency-based interview to assess alignment with WDC’s values and mission.

This is an unpaid position, reflecting WDC’s principle of dedicated individuals working to achieve global impact. While WDC may secure funding in the future, the true reward is the opportunity to change the world with your transparency, humility, and amazing skills. Candidates must have reliable internet access and be available for emergencies, including occasional nighttime hours. A minimum commitment of 6 months is required.
