Provide Job Skills Training for Individuals Experiencing Homelessness

ORGANIZATION: Transition Projects, Inc.

The Job Skills volunteer is responsible for planning and delivering workshops (or 1:1) to teach participants about effective job searching, resume and cover letter writing, how to prepare for an interview, and other skills related to job hunting. The content of the workshop is to be created by the volunteer with assistance and approval from the Volunteer Program Manager and/or shelter staff.

Specific Duties

· Lead 1-hr workshops or assist 1:1 at various shelters (or online) for small groups of individuals experiencing homelessness.

· Provide knowledge and resources about job hunting, resumes, interviews, and other career related topics.

· Review participants’ resumes/cover letters and provide feedback.

· Develop curriculum and create materials for job skills workshops including slideshows, handouts, etc.

o Work with Volunteer Program Manager and shelter staff to identify and create appropriate materials. Printing can be done for free at TPI offices.

Founded in 1969, Transition Projects is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency and operates and works out of 14 unique locations and places hundreds of people into housing each year throughout the Metropolitan area. Transition Projects offers programs, resources and tools to individuals through access to social services including case management, shelter, basic needs, support services, mentorship, and housing. Currently, Transition Projects has a staff of over 300, and annually serves more than 10,000 people.
