Please visit the new page to apply.

Do you have experience in the trades? Have you ever been interested in learning more about them? Come volunteer with us at the Compton Makers Hub! You may be assisting with one of our many workshops like electrical, plumbing, and ceramics or you might help us oragnize our library and hang our art.
The Makers Hub is Compton’s 1st comprehensive Tool Lending Library is an innovative initiative dedicated to providing residents of the Greater Compton Area with access to a wide range of tools and equipment.
Our focus is on empowering the community by offering resources that enable home improvement, repairs, and creative projects without the financial burden of purchasing new tools.
The maker’s mindset is all about embracing creativity, curiosity, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving. It’s the belief that anyone can be a creator, whether it’s through crafting, building, or innovating. We hope to welcome all volunteers to come grow alongside us and allow us to support you in your makers journey--and we'll buy you lunch ;)

Description
It is no secret that large gaps in equality and equity are most felt by marginalized communities; the City of Compton is home to 96,803 people, over 20% of whom live in poverty. The Makers Hub was established to address the lack of resources that underserved communities face. We are actively addressing those resource inadequacies by working towards the establishment of a makerspace.
What is a Makerspace?
Simply put, it is a place where people can come together to create, invent, build, and learn through the hands-on use of collaborative workspaces filled with tools and equipment. These spaces house traditional crafts, specialty trade set-ups (such as metalworking or woodshops), and new technology such as 3D printers. In addition, these workspaces provide opportunities to learn new trade skills and incubate new businesses.
In our case, we’re working towards building a community-operated workspace developed with the residents of Compton to service Compton and the surrounding communities.
