Looking to make a real impact this summer? Whether you need community service hours, want hands-on environmental experience for your resume, or simply enjoy giving back to nature -- this opportunity is for you.
Join us for one or more Stewardship Fridays in July and August at the Great Swamp Watershed Association’s Conservation Management Area (CMA) in Harding Township. Together, we’ll restore and care for this ecologically vital landscape through meaningful, hands-on projects like:
- Chipping and mulching trail networks
- Removing invasive plant species
- Building boardwalks to improve access through wet areas
- Clearing branches and storm debris
No experience is necessary -- just come ready to roll up your sleeves! We’ll provide tools, gloves, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks, and guidance. Please wear long pants, long sleeves, and sturdy boots or old shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. A hat and reusable water bottle are highly recommended.
Stewardship Fridays run from 9 AM to 1 PM on the following dates:
- July 11
- July 25
- August 1
- August 8
By volunteering, you’re helping us protect local trails, support clean water, create wildlife habitat, and build climate resilience -- right here in our local community in Morris County.

The Great Swamp Watershed Association protects and improves the health of the Passaic River through science, education, land preservation and stewardship, and advocacy.
Description
GSWA is a member-supported non-profit organization that has been protecting the waters and the land of the Great Swamp Watershed for more than 40 years.
As we continue to expand our mission geographically and in scope, we will address and respond to the needs of our watershed communities. Our critical water quality monitoring, STEM environmental education, preservation of open space and advocacy for the environment will continue to guide our mission. We will protect and promote clean, safe water for all who live, work and play in the Passaic River region. We will protect and improve the health of the Passaic River through science, education, land preservation and stewardship, and advocacy.

- This is a Done in a Day opportunity and there is no prior training or ongoing commitment needed.
- Must be at least 14
- 1 to 4 hours
