THE ROLE

Protect Us Kids Foundation (PUK) is seeking a visionary and experienced cybersecurity leader for the role of Vice President of Cybersecurity Compliance & External Affairs. This is a Board-level, unpaid volunteer position responsible for overseeing and advancing the Foundation’s cybersecurity compliance strategy while managing strategic relationships with external partners.

Reporting directly to the Founder, this role ensures that all Foundation activities adhere to robust security standards and regulatory frameworks. The Vice President will lead the development of policies, compliance protocols, and secure practices while serving as a key liaison with technology partners, educational institutions, and policy influencers. This role plays a critical part in strengthening the Foundation’s ability to protect children from digital exploitation through secure, ethical, and globally compliant operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Oversight

o Develop and lead the Foundation’s cybersecurity compliance strategy across all departments and programs.

o Ensure all operations align with national and international laws, including GDPR, CCPA, COPPA, and other youth-focused digital safety standards.

2. Cybersecurity Governance

    • Oversee the development, implementation, and auditing of cybersecurity policies and procedures.
    • Monitor emerging threats and implement proactive measures to ensure secure systems and practices.

3. External Affairs and Partnerships

    • Build and maintain partnerships with technology providers, educational institutions, and policy-focused entities.
    • Represent the Foundation at cybersecurity and compliance-related forums, panels, and working groups.

4. Risk Mitigation and Ethics

    • Promote ethical standards in data privacy, platform usage, and information management to prevent harm to vulnerable youth.
    • Lead secure integration of external technologies and platforms used across PUK’s programs and initiatives.

5. Fundraising and Resource Development:

    • Support funding efforts related to cybersecurity projects and compliance infrastructure.
    • Leverage your network to identify cybersecurity and compliance-related grants, partnerships, and technical in-kind donations.
    • Make an annual financial contribution as part of Board service.

6. Board Collaboration:

    • Attend quarterly Board meetings and collaborate with other members to advance the Foundation’s mission and goals.
    • Provide regular updates on program progress, challenges, and outcomes.

7. Program Evaluation and Reporting:

    • Establish and monitor cybersecurity KPIs across Foundation programs.

o Provide reports and updates on policy implementation, cybersecurity risks, and compliance metrics.

WORK EXPERIENCE

· Proven leadership in cybersecurity, IT governance, compliance, or risk management, ideally with global or nonprofit experience.

· Expertise in regulatory frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, HIPAA, or other security standards.

· Strong knowledge of secure system integration, ethical tech use, and risk mitigation related to child protection.

· Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and engage external stakeholders.

· A commitment to PUK’s mission and an understanding of the intersection between digital safety, cybersecurity, and vulnerable populations.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Actively participate in fundraising activities, including identifying funding opportunities and leveraging personal and professional networks to secure resources.

· Board meets monthly (12x/year) virtually, with flexibility in attendance and options for program-based updates or asynchronous contributions.

  • Dedicate approximately 8-10 hours per month to program-related activities, including collaboration with stakeholders, program development, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Represent the Foundation at events, conferences, or forums, either virtually or in person.
