About Embrace Abilities:

Embrace Abilities is a grassroots nonprofit supporting families of children with different abilities. We create inclusive events, advocate for accessibility, and build community across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We’re growing-and we need help telling our story!

Why We Need You:

We’re looking for someone local who can help us share our mission, events, and impact with the wider community. If you love connecting with people, have a knack for storytelling, or want to build your PR/media experience, you could make a huge difference here.

What You’ll Do:

  • Promote our events and programs: Write and distribute press releases, contact local media, and help us get coverage for our work.
  • Build relationships: Connect with newspapers, radio stations, TV, bloggers, and other community partners.
  • Represent Embrace Abilities: Attend some of our events, snap photos, and help us share stories from families and volunteers.
  • Support social media: Work with our founder to share news and highlights on Facebook, Instagram, and more.
  • Help us grow: Suggest new ways to raise awareness, attract sponsors, and celebrate our milestones.

Who You Are:

  • Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable talking to new people
  • Organized and a good communicator (written and verbal)
  • Interested in media, PR, journalism, communications, or community outreach (students and career changers welcome!)
  • Passionate about inclusion and supporting families of children with different abilities
  • Able to attend some events in person (schedule is flexible and based on your availability)

What You’ll Get:

  • Real-world experience in PR, media, and nonprofit communications
  • Flexible hours-help out as your schedule allows
  • The chance to make a visible impact for local families
  • A supportive, inclusive team and heartfelt gratitude

Commitment Details:

  • Location: In-person, Mississippi Gulf Coast
  • Time Commitment: Flexible! We ask for a few hours per month, with extra time around events or campaigns. We’ll work with your schedule-whether you can help regularly or just during busy times, we’re grateful for any support.
  • Duration: We hope for at least a 3-6 month commitment, but we’re open to shorter or longer involvement based on your availability.
  • Events: Attendance at some Embrace Abilities events is encouraged (for networking, photos, and media outreach), but not required for every gathering.
  • Meetings: Occasional check-ins with our founder (in-person or virtual) to coordinate efforts and share updates.

Mission Statement

At Embrace Abilities, our mission is to foster meaningful connections and empower families of children and young adults with different abilities. We are committed to supporting the whole family through inclusive opportunities where individuals ages 3 to 21, their siblings, and caregivers feel valued, supported, and celebrated. Through free programs, community engagement, and tailored resources, we aim to bridge gaps in support and build a stronger, more inclusive community for all. We envision a future where families of children and young adults with different abilities thrive together in an inclusive and supportive environment. We believe in a world where diversity is embraced, every family member is empowered, and communities come together to ensure each individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Description

Embrace Abilities is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, founded by Bridgett Lee in 2024. Inspired by lived experience, we’re dedicated to creating inclusive spaces where children, young adults, and families with different abilities feel valued and supported. We offer whole-family support through free, community-driven programs that foster confidence, independence, and meaningful connections. Our active programs include:

  • Structured Monthly Indoor Events: Inclusive gatherings for socialization, play, and connection.
  • Parent-Led Park Meetups: Outdoor activities encouraging engagement and community.
  • Birthday Buddies Club: Monthly celebrations to honor each participant’s special day.
  • Coffee with Caregivers: Quarterly sessions for parents and caregivers to connect and share support.
  • Sibshops: Activities for siblings to build friendships and share experiences.
  • Sensory Toolkits & Lending Library: Access to sensory supports for use at events.
Our values are inclusion, equal access, health, and community-driven support. We welcome children, young adults, siblings, caregivers, and professionals to help build a stronger, more inclusive Gulf Coast community. All programs are free, and donations are tax-deductible.
