Crisis line volunteers take on an advocacy role working on Our Voice’s crisis line in office and afterhours, as well as accompanying survivors to the hospital for medical forensic exams. This volunteer role would be a good fit for anyone who is passionate about working directly with survivors and has capacity to manage stressful situations.
Below are basic responsibilities for crisis line volunteers:
- Take a minimum of 2 afterhours and/or office shifts each month
- Assist callers in crisis
- Provide callers with appropriate referrals to Our Voice services or other community agencies
- Accompany survivors at Mission Hospital or the Family Justice Center for medical forensic exams during shifts
Afterhours crisis line shift hours are 5pm-8am during the week and 8am-8pm/8pm-8am during the weekends/holidays.
Office shifts are Monday-Friday 9-1pm and 1-5pm.
Please note: Office shifts will be at our office address, and on-call crisis shifts can be taken at home.
Shifts are scheduled a month in advance and shift openings may vary month to month.
