We're seeking a Project Coordinator to help the Editorial team stay aligned, meet deadlines, and move forward collaboratively. This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented, communicative, and excited about supporting the behind-the-scenes engine of investigative journalism..
Who We Are
WhoWhatWhy is a nonprofit investigative news organization producing deep-dive journalism on the most pressing issues of our time. We’re powered by skilled volunteers and a small core staff - from students to seasoned pros - who believe in ethical, independent journalism free from corporate or political influence.
About the Role
As the Project Coordinator for Editorial, you’ll:
Attend weekly Editorial meetings (Mondays at 11:00 AM ET)
Help maintain project tracking tools like Trello, spreadsheets, or shared docs
Coordinate across editors, writers, and other contributors to keep workflows moving
Ensure deadlines, assignments, and progress updates are clearly documented
Follow up with team members on open tasks and blockers
Prepare basic project summaries or visual updates (e.g., timelines, checklists)
Support overall visibility and accountability in editorial processes
What We’re Looking For
Some experience in project coordination or team-based work (internships and early-career welcome!)
Strong organization, communication, and follow-up skills
Comfortable with tools like Trello, spreadsheets, and Google Workspace
Self-motivated and reliable in a remote environment
Interest in nonprofit missions and the editorial/journalism process
What You’ll Gain

Flexible, remote schedule (aside from the required weekly meeting)
Commitment
We ask for a commitment of 5-7 hours per week and a minimum of 6 months. This includes weekly editorial meetings, project updates, and follow-up communication.
