Job Overview:
The Pre-Onboarding Coordinator manages prospective volunteer activity from application through acceptance. This includes coordinating interviews, tracking applicant progress, and ensuring timely communication and data handoffs to facilitate a seamless onboarding process.
Key Responsibilities:
Track and manage the volunteer intake pipeline
Schedule initial discussions with candidates with board or team leads as needed
Maintain status dashboards/trackers
Ensure candidates receive prompt updates, confirmations, and welcome emails
Support the Recruitment Manager by updating application records
Coordinate with onboarding and engagement teams for smooth transitions
Provide regular updates to leadership about the status and impact of initiatives.
Create and maintain clear, up-to-date processes for this position in the VPMMA knowledge base.
Take on additional tasks as needed to support evolving organizational needs
Skills and Qualifications:
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Strong coordination and follow-up skills
Familiarity with spreadsheets, CRMs, or process tracking tools
Clear, professional communication
Position Details:
Type: Volunteer
Location: Remote
Directorate: Volunteer Operations (Volunteer Committee)
Term: Six months to one year commitment to maintain consistency and effectiveness in our programs.
Time Commitment: Volunteers should aim for 5 to 8 hours per week, with a minimum of 15 hours per month. We understand that some weeks may be less active due to holidays or vacations. Effective communication about your availability helps us remain flexible and ensures smooth operations.

- Direct Report: Recruitment Manager
- Alternate: VPMMA Secretary/Chief of Staff (Volunteer Committee)
- Team: Recruiters, Recruitment Manager

About VPMMA:
The Veteran Project Manager Mentor Alliance (VPMMA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing the careers of service members, veterans, and military spouses in project management. We aim to build a strong, supportive community through mentorship, networking, and professional development, believing strongly in the transformative power of project management skills for veterans.
Training and Support:
Volunteers will receive training on VPMMA's mission, programs, and communication strategies. The Volunteer Coordinator and the Human Resources team will provide ongoing support to ensure you have the resources and guidance needed to excel in this role.

Description
In December 2017 Eric "Doc" Wright and Joe Pusz, PMO Joe started a proof of concept which eventually became VPMMA. A select few Veterans and Mentors connected to try to concept, pairing a Veteran seeking a career in Project Management with an experienced PM. The results were immediate and VPMMA was born.
The goal for VPMMA is to leverage the generous project management community to find Mentors willing to volunteer time to benefit Veterans, Servicemembers and Military Spouses. In short order, the support was overwhelming. Mentors from across the United States stepped up to serve those who have served us. Now is your turn to join us and give back some of your time to help a Veteran, Servicemember and Military Spouse.
