Bring comfort, connection, and creativity to patients through art.

We are seeking compassionate and creative individuals to serve as Hospice Art Volunteers, using visual art to enhance the quality of life for patients receiving end-of-life care. In this role, volunteers provide meaningful engagement through one-on-one or small group art activities-ranging from simple coloring and painting to collaborative art projects.

Volunteers may visit patients in private homes or assisted living communities. No professional art or hospice/medical background is required-just a warm presence, patience, and a love of creative expression.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead or assist with individual or group art sessions for hospice patients

  • Adapt art activities based on patient ability and interest

  • Offer companionship and emotional support through shared creative experiences

  • Collaborate with the volunteer coordinator and care team to ensure appropriate placement and activity plans

Ideal Qualities:

  • Kind, empathetic, and a good listener

  • Comfortable with the hospice philosophy

  • Creative and flexible in working with various art materials and patient needs

Training and support are provided. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a gentle, lasting impact through the healing power of art.

Hospice of the West was founded in 2010 with the mission to provide quality of life at the end of life. No request is too small, and no health need is too large for our specialized staff to address. Our values are compassion, accountability, communication, enthusiasm, and excellence.

Description

We provide care to all age groups during the final stages of life. Patients have an experienced team of physicians, registered nurses, certified nurse aides, medical social workers, counselors, and trained volunteers available to help them and their family manage their illness. Hospice of the West is focused primarily on comfort and pain management for our patients. Patients are cared for wherever they call home.


Volunteers can choose from a variety of opportunities:
Support for patients visiting, reading, writing letters, bringing in music, walk a pet, companionship, assist with shopping, light housekeeping, light laundry and folding, prepare a light meal

Respite and support for family members allow family caregivers the opportunity to take care of necessary errands, exercise, or simply have time alone

Share your special skills and interests musicians/singers, barbers and beauticians (licensed), light yard work, licensed pet therapy visits, art, crafts, scrapbooking/photo albums

Bereavement support programs assisting a support group facilitator, serving refreshments, or helping with mailings to families

Whatever the desires and wishes of the volunteer we can likely find a role for them.
