Disaster Action Team Service Associate
Be there, where and when your community needs you most!
§ Provide timely on-scene response to local disasters.
§ Work with a team offering Red Cross service, compassion, and hope .
Responsibilities:
§ Respond with your team to local disasters, mostly housefires, offering care and comfort.
§ Meet on-scene with individuals and families impacted by disasters.
§ Maintain communication with team and related personnel ensuring continuity and safety.
§ Attend regularly scheduled DAT meetings and stay current on all training. Regional DAT Meetings will be virtual, but depending on where you live, local virtual or in-person DAT meetings may be available as an alternative.
§ Additional related duties as discussed with supervisor.
Commitment:
§ Complete all training to gather knowledge and positions from DAT Trainee to DAT Specialist, to DAT Service Associate, with the option to continue training for leadership roles.
§ All DAT Responders are added to a 24 hour "Generally Available" shift where responders may get a call with a request to respond depending on how close their home address is to an event.
§ Respond to requests in a timely manner and communicate with the DAT Lead or the Duty Officer for an organized and timely response, using the newest policies and practices discussed in DAT Meetings to bring the resources of the Red Cross and attend to the client’s needs.
Qualifications:
§ Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to arrive on-scene at assigned disasters within two hours of initial call to meet your team.
§ Minimumage 18.
§ Access to smartphone and/or computer with ability to send/receive text messages.
§ Willingness to use/learn new technology required for event documentation.
§ Comfortable working as part of a team and taking direction from leadership.
§ Ability to read, write,and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
Training:
§6-7 Hours virtual "trainee" level, training videos
§3-4 additional hours at the "specialist" level, training videos
§Additional on the job training and mentorship by regional leadership
