The Baltimore Folk Music Society (BFMS) seeks regular volunteers to run the sound system for Wednesday night contra dances at Lovely Lane Church in Charles Village.
Interested in learning sound engineering? Want to meet dozens of local old time and folk musicians? Become a sound engineer and support an all-volunteer community organization celebrating 50 years of dancing in 2025!
Our current sound technicians will train committed volunteers to use the single-mix sound system and all equipment.
Time Commitment: Wednesdays, 7pm - 11pm, one to three weeks/month.
Duties: After training for several weeks with current sound techs, when the volunteer is ready to run the sound for a dance, duties will include:
- Setting up the speakers, mixers, mic stands, mics, etc. for a caller and between 2 and 12 musicians.
- Communicating via email in advance of the dance with musicians to understand any special sound needs.
- Creating and maintaining an appropriate sound mix during the dance.
- With help from other volunteers, breaking down and securely storing all sound equipment after the dance.
