The Somali Bantu Association of America (SBAOA) is seeking dedicated volunteers to support refugee and immigrant families in San Diego. We have several ongoing volunteer needs:
* Food Pantry Support (2nd Wednesdays & every Thursday, 9 AM-3 PM): Help sort, pack, and distribute food, assist with check-in and traffic, and clean up.
* ESL Class Assistants: Work with adult learners to improve English reading, writing, and conversation skills. No teaching experience needed!
* Office & Program Support: Help staff with basic admin, organizing supplies, and client intake.
* Immigration Assistance: Help with form completion and translation during appointments (Pashto, Dari, Somali, Swahili, Arabic, or Spanish speakers especially encouraged).
Volunteers earn community service hours, gain valuable experience, and make a lasting impact. We welcome college students, professionals, and community members ready to serve!

Description
The Somali Bantu Association of America (SBAOA) is seeking dedicated volunteers to support refugee and immigrant communities in San Diego. We need help with several key programs. Our food pantry operates every second Wednesday of the month and every Thursday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and volunteers assist with sorting, packing, distributing food, managing check-in, and clean-up. Volunteers are also needed for our ESL classes, helping adult learners improve English reading, writing, and conversation skills-no teaching experience required. Additional help is needed with daily office operations, including welcoming visitors, organizing files, prepping materials, and general admin support. Those interested in social work or law can assist with immigration and social services, supporting clients with forms, translation, and intake during legal aid sessions. Language skills in Pashto, Dari, Somali, Swahili, Arabic, Spanish, or Vietnamese are a plus but not required. Volunteering with SBAOA offers a chance to give back, earn service hours, gain valuable experience, and make a lasting difference in our community.
