We're looking for six passionate and highly motivated individuals to join our team as Sustainability Analysts. This is a volunteer role that offers a unique opportunity to directly contribute to critical environmental and social justice issues, especially within an African context. You'll use your analytical skills to support youth-led initiatives, playing a key part in developing and disseminating research, and crafting powerful advocacy tools. Your work will directly empower young people as agents of change for a more sustainable world.

Your Core Missions

As a Sustainability Analyst Volunteer, your responsibilities will be pivotal and include:

  • Data Collection and Impact Analysis: Gathering, organizing, and rigorously analyzing data related to the environmental footprint and social impact of Youthshare Initiatives' programs, with a strong focus on projects in Africa. This will specifically involve initiatives under Climate & Environmental Justice and Social & Territorial Innovation.
  • Research for Sustainable Solutions: Conducting in-depth research on best practices in youth-led sustainable development, environmental justice frameworks, green technologies, and innovative social models relevant to our target regions, especially across the African continent.
  • Publication of Articles: You'll have the exciting opportunity to draft and contribute to the publication of articles for our platforms, sharing key findings, insights, and success stories related to our sustainability work and youth engagement.
  • Development of Advocacy Dossiers: A crucial part of this role involves preparing specialized advocacy dossiers. These comprehensive documents will present well-researched arguments and recommendations on major projects, intended for direct submission to key institutions and governments to influence policy and decision-making for sustainable development.
  • Performance Evaluation & Recommendations: Assisting in evaluating the effectiveness of our current projects in fostering environmental sustainability and positive social change among youth, and then proposing concrete, youth-centric recommendations for enhancing our strategies and operational practices.
  • Support for Youth-led Projects: Collaborating with our teams to ensure sustainability principles are integrated into new and existing youth-driven initiatives and advocacy campaigns.

What We're Looking For In You

We're seeking individuals who possess these key qualities:

  • Sharp Analytical Skills: A proven ability to collect, analyze, and interpret complex data, transforming insights into clear, actionable strategies.
  • Passion for Youth Empowerment & Sustainability: A deep commitment to environmental and social justice issues, coupled with a strong belief in the transformative power of young people, particularly in the African context. An understanding of climate justice principles is a significant advantage.
  • Strong Research & Writing Abilities: The capacity to conduct thorough research and articulate findings clearly and persuasively, suitable for articles and formal advocacy documents.
  • Detail-Oriented & Proactive: Someone who pays close attention to detail, can work methodically, takes initiative, and thrives both independently and as part of a collaborative, international team.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present complex information clearly and convincingly to diverse audiences, including institutional partners.
  • Software Proficiency: Competence in office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Google Sheets/Slides). Familiarity with data analysis tools or sustainability reporting software is a valuable asset.
  • Relevant Background (a plus): A background or experience in environmental studies, sustainable development, social sciences, public policy, journalism, communications, or a related field, especially with an interest in youth-led development and Africa.

What This Volunteer Mission Offers You

  • Real, Tangible Impact in Africa: This is not just theoretical work. You'll contribute directly to shaping sustainable practices and influencing policy on the ground, particularly in the African countries we serve.
  • Unique Advocacy Experience: Gain hands-on experience in developing and deploying high-impact advocacy dossiers aimed at institutions and governments - a rare opportunity in a volunteer role.
  • Publication Opportunities: Build your portfolio by contributing to and publishing articles that highlight critical sustainability issues and youth leadership.
  • Exceptional Professional Growth: Acquire invaluable practical experience in sustainability analysis, international collaboration, and youth development within a vibrant non-profit setting.
  • Global Networking: Connect with a diverse group of passionate professionals, young leaders, and institutional partners across various continents.
  • Flexibility: We are open to discussing flexible arrangements in terms of hours and working modalities. Given the international nature of these roles, remote work is the primary mode.
  • A Dynamic & Supportive Environment: Integrate into an inspiring and welcoming team truly dedicated to its mission and the development of its volunteers.

Time Commitment

We request a commitment of approximately 6 to 20 hours per week for 1 to 3 months. We are flexible and can adapt this commitment based on your availability.

Mission Statement

YouthShare Initiatives, governed by French Law of 1901, empowers youth globally. Our mission is to unite, mobilize, and inspire young people via sustainable, collaborative projects, fostering equitable development. We believe youth drive essential change, focusing on leadership training for high-impact social and environmental initiatives. We facilitate international collaboration through dynamic networks, encouraging borderless knowledge sharing. Prioritizing inclusion, we ensure young people from diverse backgrounds are heard and empowered. Our concrete actions support sustainable development via innovative solutions in education, environment, and social innovation, meeting community needs responsibly. YouthShare Initiatives advocates strongly for inclusive policies with international bodies and decision-makers. We champion social inclusion for disadvantaged youth, ensuring active participation and equal opportunities.

Description

YouthShare Initiatives was born from the profound conviction that the youth of Sub-Saharan Africa are a revolutionary, creative, and present force capable of transforming societies. Our primary objective is to create concrete spaces for young people's expression, decision-making, and action, enabling them to become essential actors in social, economic, and environmental change. Among our flagship programs, we work to bridge the digital divide in rural Africa by equipping young people with essential skills, and we lead the SDG WATCH AFRICA initiative. Our notable achievements include organizing over 50 webinars since our inception, a prestigious invitation to the United Nations in Geneva where three of our members presented our vision for 2045, as well as targeted advocacy campaigns on famine. This year, two of our members also have the honor of representing our association at the Youth Assembly of the World Food Forum of the FAO, demonstrating our continuous commitment and the recognition of our expertise on the international stage.
