We Believe in Portland is our organization's largest event of the year. Held twice per year, this event brings together ~2,000 volunteers in Portland, Oregon for a day of service and connection. In just a couple of hours, volunteers clean litter and debris from hundreds of blocks while sending a clear message to the wider community of support and pride for our city. This volunteer position will support our collective event marketing efforts by focusing on content curation and creation for our social media channels (Instagram and LinkedIn). You can learn more at www.webelieveinportland.com
Why it matters:
As a very small team of three paid staff members, we do not have someone solely dedicated to marketing. Your volunteer work in this role will help us maximize our reach in our community while providing critical support to our tiny team while we manage this growing movement!
What you'll do:
Review past event social media content to assess engagement and provide recommendations for improving performance-particularly on sponsor-related posts.
Curate a selection of high-performing event photos for social media from our archives and organize them on Google Drive for future use.
Draft engaging social media posts for Instagram and LinkedIn based on a preset schedule. This includes selecting nad/or creating appropriate visuals, writing compelling captions, and incorporating relevant hashtags.
Collaborate with the team to align content with overall marketing goals and brand voice.
We're looking for someone who is is self-directed and organized with strong written communication skills and a good visual eye.
Our ideal candidate has:
- an understanding of what kind of visual content performs best on various social media platforms.
- demonstrated experience with graphic design and/or other social media content creation, preferably related to event or program promotion
- familiarity with Canva
What to expect:
This is a short term role starting as soon as possible and wrapping up after the event on September 19. You will be working remotely and will use your own computer and internet access. We will find a recurring time during normal business hours (M-F, 10am - 6pm PST) for a standard check-in on Google Meet to stay aligned on project management and ensure you feel fully supported. Outside of those check-in meetings, your schedule and time management is up to you.

Mission Statement
AdoptOneBlock empowers people to take simple, consistent action to nurture cleaner and more connected communities.
Description
AdoptOneBlock has reimagined the way we make our city cleaner and more connected. With our Block Ambassador program, we pioneered a new method of civic engagement at scale that empowers anyone to clean the block they love the most, when and how they want, with clean up supplies we deliver to them for free.
As of March 2025, we have over 12k blocks adopted by over 10k volunteer Block Ambassadors across Oregon and Washington. The average Block Ambassador removes 600 gallons of litter and debris from their neighborhoods throughout their time as a volunteer. Just as important as a clean neighborhood, this program also fosters stronger relationships, with 88% of volunteers feeling more connected to their community.
Our Block Brigade program is organized and led by small groups of Block Ambassadors who come together to clean public areas needing a greater level of care. Most recently, the Block Brigade has removed over 500 pounds of litter and abandoned items in three neighborhoods in Portland, Oregon.
We Believe in Portland is our large-scale cleanup event, hosted twice each year in Portland, Oregon. Teams from local businesses come together to demonstrate their commitment to a cleaner, more vibrant city. On April 25, 2025, we had our biggest event ever with 1,800 volunteers and over 170 participating companies who worked together to remove 860 pounds of trash from downtown and northwest Portland.
