Description
The ornamental gardens at Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park bloom in memory of both the Maclay family and the African-American communities who were the once stewards of this land.
The park is home to the picturesque 28-acre ornamental gardens, first planted in 1923 by the Maclay family. Lake Hall provides opportunities for swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Hikers, bicyclists and equestrians can enjoy six miles of shared-use trails and five miles of designated biking trails winding through the woods surrounding Lake Overstreet. It takes a crew of dedicated staff and volunteers to keep this unique park beautiful for our visitors from all over the world!
At Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park, we utilize volunteers to assist with maintenance, events, visitor services, and interpreting the park and its history. If you're a people person, you'd be a great fit for our Ranger Station or Visitor Center. If you have a green thumb, the gardens and trails always need attention. If you're handy with tools, come help us with maintenance projects. There's something for just about everyone!
