About CITIZEN CLIMATE

Mission Statement

Citizen Climate empowers students to engage directly with climate science through hands-on learning, real-world data collection, and accessible education. We aim to build early climate literacy, foster scientific curiosity, and equip young people, especially in underserved communities, with the knowledge and agency to make a positive impact in their local environments.

Description

Citizen Climate is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that teaches climate science to young students through hands-on activities. Since launching, the organization has worked with over 400 elementary school students in the DMV region. Through interactive workshops and Citizen Climate Kits, students collect and analyze real environmental data from their own communities. The kits include simple tools such as pH test strips, thermometers, air quality strips, and soil moisture tests that allow students to explore air, water, and soil conditions. The program uses science lessons, stories, and activities to help students understand climate issues at an early age. The goal is to give children the knowledge and tools to engage with climate science starting in kindergarten.
