OVERVIEW

  • Hybrid position in Ft. Lauderdale, FL
  • Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of 6 hours per week with a flexible schedule.
  • This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity.
  • STW(tm) welcomes volunteers who are seeking skill-based volunteering opportunities. STW(tm) shall provide a "letter of recommendation" professionals who demonstrate outstanding contributions for professional references.
WHY VOLUNTEER WITH US?

Join Save The Water to gain valuable hands-on experience in a laboratory setting, contribute to meaningful environmental research, and help protect our water resources. This role is ideal for recent graduates, university students, or individuals seeking to build experience in microbiology, environmental science, or laboratory operations, with flexible training provided to support your growth.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operate microscopes and other laboratory equipment to observe and document samples under supervision, with training provided as needed.
  • Record videos of laboratory activities for social media to promote our mission and research.
  • Perform basic scientific analysis and support general laboratory tasks, with training provided by laboratory staff.
  • Assist with administrative duties, including contacting suppliers, managing inventory, and organizing lab documentation.
  • Support water sampling efforts in the Marina Bay Laboratory (Ft. Lauderdale), Florida Everglades, and surrounding areas as needed.
  • Document observations and assist in preparing basic reports or presentations to communicate findings.
EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
  • Preference for post-secondary education or coursework in a relevant scientific discipline, such as microbiology, biology, or environmental science; no degree required.
  • No prior experience required; training will be provided by Save The Water staff for microscope operation, video recording, and basic lab tasks.
  • Basic understanding of microbiology and chemistry principles.
  • Strong interest in gaining hands-on laboratory experience and contributing to water quality research.
  • Good organizational skills and willingness to perform administrative tasks.
  • Enthusiasm for learning, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
