Position Summary:
Volunteers support the mission of the Chena Flood Control Project by assisting with conservation, education, maintenance, and public outreach efforts that protect and enhance the area’s natural and engineered resources. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the stewardship of a vital flood control system and its surrounding recreational and ecological areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with trail and facility maintenance, including clearing debris and minor repairs.
- Support habitat restoration projects (e.g., planting, invasive species removal).
- Participate in community education and outreach events.
- Help monitor environmental conditions (e.g., water levels, wildlife activity).
- Provide visitor information and guidance when appropriate.
- Maintain safety and follow all project protocols while volunteering.
Qualifications:
- Enthusiasm for environmental stewardship and public service.
- Willingness to work outdoors in variable conditions.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- No prior experience required--training provided.
Time Commitment:
Flexible scheduling; volunteers may participate in one-time events or ongoing assignments depending on availability.

Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project area, near Fairbanks, Alaska.
