Provides support for ranger- and led interpretive night sky programming at Black Canyon of the Gunnison’s South Rim Campground, South Rim Visitor Center, overlooks, and other venues. Greets and ushers audience members to and from program areas, seating, and designated viewing areas during night sky programs. Educates visitors on safety policies and lighting etiquette. Orients visitors to other park facilities (e.g., restrooms, parking lots, etc.) and resources (e.g., park staff in attendance). Watches for safety concerns and resource and/or property damage concerns during programs; intervenes and/or reports said concerns to park staff as appropriate with the situation, volunteer comfort, and training. Assists in the setup, operation, and disassembly of program equipment including temporary lighting features, program props, audio-visual equipment, and occasionally government-owned telescopes with supervision and instruction. May direct vehicles entering and leaving parking lots in dark, nighttime conditions. May serve as "tail" of a guided walk during a full moon along a park trail to promote safety. May rove South Rim Campground during late afternoon or evening hours to promote night sky program attendance. May answer questions regarding astronomical and night sky topics from the public according to volunteer’s interest and ability.
