*WATERFOWL HUNTING SEASON* and *BIRD WATCHING SEASON*
Seeking one tech-savvy and friendly individual to answer visitor questions, assist visitors with purchasing auto tour fees online, answer phone calls from hunters and other visitors, direct calls to appropriate refuge staff, and keep a small visitor center tidy and open on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays during the fall and winter seasons. Some additional weekend days and other days of the week may be required or negotiable. The volunteer would also clean (sweep, mop, dust, etc.) the common areas and tidy the restrooms as needed (we do already have a once per week janitorial service).
Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge is located along Interstate 5 about 70 miles north of Sacramento and about 80 miles south of Redding, California. It is well known for the millions of geese and ducks which migrate through and spend weeks to months in the refuge's wetlands. The refuge complex includes Sacramento, Delevan, Colusa, Sutter, and Sacramento River NWRs, and the Steve Thompson North Central Valley WMA (Llano Seco unit). Opportunities for recreation include all "Big 6" activities: wildlife observation, photography, hunting, fishing, environmental education, and interpretation. The visitor center is located 10 miles south of the city of Willows, California, which has grocery stores, restaurants, and a medical center. All resident volunteers must meet the qualifications and work the minimum weekly work hours (20) to stay in housing or RV. Send email to inquire.
HOUSING:
RV pads with electric and water hookups are available with a minimum six week commitment of 20 hours per week per resident. Trash service is provided. Tent camping is not nor are open fires. Sorry, no pets are allowed due to wildlife considerations.

Mission Statement
Working with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
Description
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the premier government agency dedicated to the conservation, protection, and enhancement of fish, wildlife and plants, and their habitats. We are the only agency in the federal government whose primary responsibility is the conservation and management of these important natural resources for the American public.
The agency includes both the National Wildlife Refuge System and the National Fish Hatchery System.
The Service's origins date back to 1871 when Congress established the U.S. Fish Commission to study the decrease in the nation’s food fishes and recommend ways to reverse that decline. (More on our history below.) Today, we are a diverse and largely decentralized organization, employing about 8,000 dedicated professionals working out of facilities across the country.
