Advisory Board Member - Innovation Committees
Houston Strong Children Services | Strong SMART Innovation Center
Position Title: Advisory Board Member
Commitment: Quarterly/Biannual Meetings (per committee)
Term Length: 1-2 Years (renewable)
Location: Hybrid (Virtual + In-Person as needed)
Time Commitment: ~10-15 hours per quarter
Reports To: Executive Director and Innovation Committee Chair(s)
Advisory Board Members provide strategic insight, sector expertise, and collaborative guidance to one or more committees aligned with our mission to disrupt trauma and expand equity-driven opportunities for youth and families. Members play a vital role in shaping real-world, hands-on learning experiences, guiding program implementation, and leveraging networks to support the growth and sustainability of Strong SMART Innovation Center initiatives.
Committee Options & Focus Areas: 1. STREAM Innovation Committee
Focus: Support immersive learning in Science, Tech, Reading, Engineering, Esports, Art, Manufacturing & Aquatics.
Ideal for: Engineers, architects, educators, tech developers, designers, esports experts, makerspace mentors.
2. Fund Development, Workforce & Entrepreneurship Committee
Focus: Guide fundraising, financial growth, apprenticeships, internships, trades, and youth entrepreneurship.
Ideal for: Fundraisers, investors, social enterprise leaders, workforce/trades experts, small business mentors.
3. Data, Research & Impact Committee
Focus: Strengthen data use, research partnerships, digital tools, and trauma-informed evaluation models.
Ideal for: Public health professionals, data scientists, researchers, evaluators, software integrators.
4. Wellness, Equity & Healing Committee
Focus: Integrate culturally rooted, healing-centered approaches into programs and physical environments.
Ideal for: Mental health providers, DEI leaders, movement/yoga therapists, chaplains, healers, nutritionists.
5. Strategic Partnerships & Community Engagement Committee
Focus: Build trust with schools, agencies, and systems serving youth and families.
Ideal for: Educators, justice/care system professionals, faith leaders, community organizers, youth advocates.
6. Executive Advisory Council (Invite-Only)
Focus: Strategic visioning, fundraising leadership, executive-level advising.
Ideal for: CEOs, philanthropists, government liaisons, public figures, legal or policy experts.
● Serve on 1-2 active committees providing thought partnership and guidance
● Participate in quarterly or biannual meetings (virtual/in-person)
● Leverage personal/professional networks to support partnerships and opportunities
● Review pilot programs, youth engagement models, or impact strategies
● Support fundraising and public engagement when possible
● Uphold a commitment to trauma-informed, equitable, and community-rooted values
● Deep expertise aligned with one or more committee themes
● Passion for youth development, innovation, and social impact
● Willingness to collaborate across disciplines and communities
● Experience working with underserved or system-impacted populations
● Commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness
● Be part of a transformative initiative uplifting youth and families
● Influence innovative education, workforce, wellness, and tech spaces
● Network with cross-sector leaders, creatives, and changemakers
