Volunteer Opportunity: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor

our Star Family is a nonprofit community health center that's committed to training the next generation of marriage and family therapists while providing accessible counseling services to our community. We believe in fostering professional growth and excellence in clinical practice, as well as closing the gap between a student and their success.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) to serve as a volunteer clinical supervisor for our pre-licensed therapists. This is an exceptional opportunity to mentor emerging professionals, share your expertise, and contribute to the development of quality mental health care in our community.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide clinical supervision to 2-4 pre-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associates (MFTAs)

- Conduct weekly individual and/or group supervision sessions

- Review and co-sign clinical documentation and treatment plans

- Observe therapy sessions (live or recorded) and provide feedback

- Ensure supervisees meet state licensing requirements and professional standards

- Mentor supervisees in clinical skills, ethics, and professional development

- Maintain supervision records and documentation

- Participate in training and consultation meetings

Qualifications Required

- Current, active LMFT license in NY or CT

- Minimum 5 years of post-licensure clinical experience

Approved as a qualified supervisor by the state licensing board, with Current supervisor training certification (or willingness to obtain)

- Experience in marriage and family therapy modalities

- Strong mentoring and teaching abilities

- Current malpractice insurance covering supervision activities

Preferred Qualifications

- Advanced training in supervision models and techniques

- Experience with diverse populations and multicultural competency

- Knowledge of current ethical standards and legal requirements

- Background in evidence-based therapeutic approaches

Time Commitment

1-4 hours per week for supervision activities

Supervision Structure

- Individual supervision: 1 hour per week per supervisee

- Case consultation and professional development sessions

- Regular evaluation and feedback processes
