At Prime Crew Wildlife NPC, the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of Chacma baboons and Vervet monkeys is a dedicated and compassionate process focused on the long-term welfare and conservation of these primates. Animals are rescued from situations such as human-wildlife conflict, the illegal pet trade, or injury in the wild. Upon arrival, each individual receives a full medical assessment and personalized care to support physical recovery and psychological healing. Once healthy, the primates are gradually integrated into a close knit, species-appropriate troops-an essential step in their rehabilitation. Building up strong, socially bonded groups mirrors natural troop structures and significantly increases their chances of survival post-release. These troops are then rewilded into carefully selected, protected habitats where they are monitored and supported as they readjust to life in the wild. This holistic, knowledge-driven approach ensures that each rescued animal is not only given a second chance but is also set up to thrive in a natural, sustainable environment.

Description
Prime Crew Wildlife NPC was established in 2013, but our journey began in 2011 with a young orphaned chacma baboon named Smeegal. His mother was tragically shot in a strawberry field, and we were contacted by the farm owner to collect him. Caring for Smeegal revealed the urgent need for specialized care and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned primates. What started as a single rescue soon became our life mission. We collaborated with wildlife rehab centres, learning everything we could, and eventually opened our own facility focused on giving chacma baboons and vervet monkeys a second chance at life in the wild.
Our goal is simple but powerful: to rehabilitate primates and release them back into their natural environment. We restore their health, rebuild social bonds, and prepare them for life in the wild-free and thriving, as nature intended.
We run a full rehabilitation program including rescue, medical care, socialization, troop formation, pre-release conditioning, and release into protected wilderness areas. Volunteers are vital to every stage, helping with feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and observation.
We’re proud to have released 2 troops of baboons and 3 troops of vervets. They are now living wild and free, proof of what compassion, dedication, and teamwork can achieve.
