Location: Hybrid - Robin’s Nest (Ramona, CA)/Remote

Reports to: President, Kimber Williams

Position Type: Part-Time

Salary/Compensation: Volunteer

Position Overview:

The objective of the Junior Volunteer Coordinator is to ensure proper support of Robin’s Nest Rescue and its mission through the effective engagement of volunteers to include recruitment, retention, recognition, training, orientations, scheduling, and communications for all defined volunteer positions;, including but not limited to animal care, special events, and program sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold Robin’s Nest Rescue (RNR) policies and procedures
  • Represent RNR in a professional manner, working to forward the mission
  • Source and recruit volunteers through various techniques (community outreach, databases, e-mail, social media, etc.)
  • Actively promote volunteer opportunities with RNR in the community
  • Assist with volunteer orientations, trainings, and tours
  • Assist with processing volunteer applications, following up with applicants, coordinating volunteer interviews when necessary
  • Answering prospective volunteer questions by phone and/or e-mailing volunteer information to prospective volunteers
  • Assist with volunteer scheduling, logging volunteer hours, as well as maintaining the volunteer database
  • Assist in updating Volunteer Training Manuals and electronic training materials as needed
  • Assist in supervising all volunteers in relation to program support, animal care, events, etc.
  • Communicate with volunteers regarding schedules, changes in schedules, training opportunities
  • Event Support: Help coordinate volunteers at RNR events, fundraisers, and other community outreach activities; this may include helping with event logistics, setting up, and supervising volunteers on the day of the event
  • Volunteer Recognition: Assist in developing and implementing volunteer recognition programs to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of volunteers
  • Monitor the quality of volunteer work
  • Report hazards to your direct supervisor
  • Report progress, successes, and challenges to your direct supervisor on a regular basis through one-on-one meetings and/or e-mail reports
  • Participate at RNR events such as trainings, special events, etc.
  • Other duties assigned or needed to help advocate our mission

Skills:

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate volunteers, staff, and community members.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks, schedules, and projects simultaneously.
  • People Skills: Friendly, approachable, and able to work effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to think on your feet and handle any volunteer issues or conflicts that may arise in a positive, constructive manner.
  • Passion for Animal Welfare: A genuine love for animals and a commitment to supporting their well-being through volunteerism.
  • Tech Savvy: Comfortable using basic office software (Microsoft Office, Google Suite) and volunteer management platforms (e.g., SignUpGenius, VolunteerMatch).
  • Preferred: Some experience in volunteer coordination, event planning, or customer service; Knowledge of animal care or experience volunteering with animal organizations is a plus.
