Come lend a hand at Fruits of Diversity Orchard! At this work party we will be thinning fruitlets to prevent pest and disease pressure on the trees. No experience necessary! We will provide tools and show you what to do. This is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, meet fellow community members, and help care for this beautiful space! The orchard is home to over 48 fruit trees, dozens of edible shrubs, medicinal and culinary herbs, native plants for pollinators, and so much more. Each year, the orchard grows in maturity and productivity.

About Portland Fruit Tree Project

Location:

5431 NE 20th Ave, PORTLAND, OR 97211, US

Mission Statement

PFTP's mission is to increase equitable access to healthful food and strengthen communities by empowering neighbors to share in the harvest and care of city-grown produce. We envision joyful communities that see every fruit tree as an abundant resource which contributes to a just food system and enhances the well-being of people, community networks, habitat, and our changing climate.

Description

Portland Fruit Tree Project is a grassroots organization that provides a community-based solution to a critical and growing need in Portland and beyond: access to healthy food and the benefits provided by trees including cleaner air, shade, and food. By empowering neighbors to share in the harvest and care of urban fruit trees, we are preventing waste, building community knowledge and resources, and creating sustainable ways to obtain healthy, locally-grown food.

We believe that fruit trees can be powerful tools to build a better Portland Metro area, and that our programming can be replicated in other regions.
