Orange Hospice is seeking a compassionate volunteer team and make a meaningful impact on the our patients and their families. We are currently seeking a female, Korean speaking volunteer who is available to visit a patient in Buena Park on Wednesdays around 4:30pm to 6:30pm. This patient has Dementia/Senile degeneration of the brain, and their family is in need of some volunteer support to give them an opportunity to take a break from their demanding caregiving duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Comfort: Create a calming and comforting environment for hospice patients, providing a supportive presence, and practical support such as light housekeeping and meal preparation (these tasks are dependent on your comfort level / willingness to do these tasks).
- Respite for Caregivers: Provide temporary relief for caregivers, allowing them to take a break and attend to personal needs.
- Redirection and Reassurance: Gently redirect conversations or activities when the patient becomes anxious, repetitive, or fixated. Volunteers will work with the family to discover methods to calmly change the subject, offer comfort, or use distraction techniques to help ease the patient’s distress and create a soothing environment.
- Korean speaking is a must to ensure patient is as comfortable as possible
- Prior experience working in Memory Care or with individuals with disabilities is a BONUS, or a volunteer with an interest in working in this field.
