Mission Statement
Our Mission is to serve incarcerated individuals, their impacted families, and to empower all through increased awareness and education and collaboration, thereby creating effective advocates who can advance humane conditions within the Texas prison system.
Description
Texas Prisons Community Advocates (TPCA) is a grassroots organization committed to ending inhumane prison conditions and defending the rights and dignity of incarcerated people and their families in Texas. We work alongside system-impacted individuals to expose abuse, push for policy reform, and build collective power through organizing, public education, and coalition campaigns.
Our efforts include:
Supporting families navigating the prison system
Advocating for legislative change on issues like extreme heat, solitary confinement, and compassionate release.
Publishing The Carceral, a monthly newsletter mailed to over 1,400 people behind bars
Leading and contributing to statewide coalitions such as 85 to Stay Alive, focused on ending deadly conditions inside Texas prisons
TPCA believes in the power of community, the urgency of transparency, and the right of every person - free or incarcerated - to be treated with humanity.
