Recruiting Organization: Court Watch Montgomery
Description
Do you prefer volunteering flexible hours behind the scenes, value attention to detail and wish to make a meaningful impact on the integrity of the data collected for the purpose of social justice?
We are currently seeking 1-2 data entry volunteers who are detail-oriented, consistent, and passionate about our mission.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of our effort, and we need your help. As protectors of the integrity of the data we collect, our data entry volunteers ensure we are able to analyze and provide recommendations to make systemic changes to improve how courts handle domestic violence cases. Becoming involved with Court Watch Montgomery will not only provide you with the opportunity to connect with the community in a meaningful way but will also allow you to witness first-hand how a data-driven nonprofit can create lasting changes to the court system.
About the work:
Electronics are not allowed in the courtroom. Court Watch Montgomery court monitors collect data on physical paper forms, scan them as PDFs, and submit them to the Data Analyst & Manager for quality control. Most of the form is comprised of discrete variables, but there is a section for open-ended comments. Data entry volunteers are assigned forms to enter that are grouped by court session dates. There are always at least two monitors attending each court session, and both sets of forms are used for entering comments.
Requirements:
- Ability to decipher a wide variety of handwriting styles and summarize/consolidate comments. Ability to read legal shorthand/symbols is not required (court monitors are instructed not to use them), but some monitors use common abbreviations.
- Ability to work from home a minimum of 6-10 flexible hours per month on an ongoing basis for a year.
- Attention to detail and ability to enter data with a high degree of accuracy.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and basic computer skills, such as using a split screen to view PDFs on one side and enter data on the other.
- Familiarity with Zoom or Google Meet for online training and knowledge of how to use features such as screen share.
- Communicate with the Data Analyst & Manager regarding any questions you have or changes to your availability.
This position is open to anyone in the United States, but if you live in Montgomery County or the surrounding area, you are welcome to join in-person volunteer events and observe court.
