Do you have general maintenance experience? Are you eager to help care for your public lands? If so, think about joining our team and spend your summer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in Wisconsin’s famous Driftless Region at Blackhawk Park. We are now recruiting camp host/maintenance volunteers (singles or 2-person teams) to join our Recreation Operations team for Summer 2025.
Duties include general visitor assistance, littler pickup, site cleanup, painting, general maintenance, operating small engine equipment (leaf blower, weed trimmer, etc.), and park beautification, along with performing other various duties (no daily mowing or toilet cleaning!). Tasks available to fit your interests and skills, no experience needed.
Volunteers will be provided a campsite with full hookups in exchange for 20-30 hours of work per week. Position runs April through October. We ask for at least a minimum of a one month commitment, preferred for multiple months or the full season. Volunteer work schedules are flexible but typically duties take place Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm as to work with the maintenance staff as much as possible.
Blackhawk Park is located in the heart of Wisconsin’s Driftless Region, and the Tri-State Area along the Mississippi River (Pool 9). The Mississippi River provides excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, canoeing and kayaking, as well as great bird watching, and watching the tows on the river. There is lots of hiking and exploring opportunities within the local areas, as well as lots of local town festivals and events.
Fuel, fishing supplies, firewood, ice, restaurants, laundry, and a small grocery store are within 5 to 10 miles of this campground, in the towns of De Soto, WI, and Lansing, IA. If you prefer a larger town, La Crosse (pop. 50,000) is about 30 miles away. Wal-Mart is 25 minutes away near La Crosse.
