ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - Illinois Region

Image_202311021049

The American Red Cross of Illinois is urgently seeking volunteers to train as new Disaster Duty Officers. You can take the lead in organizing a disaster team response for home fires and other local and regional disasters from your living room, coffee shop, dormitory lounge, hotel room, local library--basically wherever you are, as long as you have a good internet connection, a reliable phone and an available laptop, tablet, or desktop computer. This virtual opportunity allows you to create your own "on call" schedule and make an enormous impact helping people in your community while working remotely.

We provide all the training, mentorship and support you'll need.

You should be:

Caring and compassionate, with a genuine desire to help people.

Calm and able to keep your cool under pressure.

Patient and persistent.

Willing to learn.

If that sounds like you, and you have about 8 hours a week (or more) you can dedicate to being on call, we want to invite you to join the American Red Cross right away!

Disaster Duty Officers are the first point of contact in a local Red Cross emergency response. They are notified by Fire Departments, EMA managers, or occasionally individual clients, when there is a home fire or other local emergency. They verify that the information is correct and identify the nearest Red Cross disaster responders who are available. Once they have found at least two available responders, they coordinate our response and make sure help is on the way.
