Help Deliver Meals & Wellness to Formerly Unhoused Neighbors in Santa Monica

Location:
Delivery Site: The Laurel, 1413 Michigan Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90404

Opportunity:
Meals on Wheels West is looking for dedicated volunteers to deliver meals through our Delivering More Than a Meal program on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays in Santa Monica. Volunteers will deliver to The Laurel, a nearby permanent supportive housing building that serves individuals transitioning out of homelessness. Just down the street from our office, The Laurel is home to 25 clients, all of whom rely on our nutritious meals and friendly visits to thrive.

Why It Matters:
Whether someone is homebound due to chronic illness, aging, disability, or recovery from surgery, they often face two serious challenges: poor nutrition and isolation. Our volunteers help solve both by delivering nutritious meals along with Wellness Checks to our clients.

Who We Serve:
Meals on Wheels West provides meals and social connection to homebound individuals of all ages and incomes, including those living with disabilities, chronic health conditions, or experiencing temporary hardship. Our clients at The Laurel are formerly unhoused individuals now living in permanent supportive housing and navigating stability with your help.

What to Expect:
As a Delivery Volunteer, you’ll:

  • Pick up meals at our Santa Monica office and deliver to The Laurel (25 clients in one location)
  • This is one location, so completing the route will typically take less than one hour
  • Deliver hot lunches, breakfast, fruit, milk, and occasional frozen meals

Requirements:

  • Weekly availability on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday between 10:45 AM - 1:45 PM
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian
  • All volunteers must pass a background check
  • Commitment to making up any missed shifts when possible
  • Completion of full onboarding process required before starting

While all time is appreciated, volunteers who can commit to weekly or bi-weekly shifts help us provide dependable support to those who need it most.
