ORGANIZATION: PEACE HOUSE COMMUNITY

image_20241105105612

If you like driving and have a vehicle big enough to carry several grocery carts full of groceries, Peace House Community (PHC) wants to hear from you!

PHC is a community center serving homeless and formerly homeless individuals in south Minneapolis. We rely on food rescue programs to provide breakfast, lunch and snacks to our community members. Grocery stores and organizations in Plymouth and Minneapolis donate supplies to us, and we sometimes receive random calls from wedding receptions, etc. asking us to take their excess food. We are looking for somoene who can pick up supplies for us, either on a set schedule or as needed on call.

The volunteer will need to have their own vehicle (large enough to pick up large amounts of food at one time), a clean driving record, and the appropriate insurance coverage ($100,000/$300,000). They will have to lift items that weigh up to 50 pounds.

Peace House Community is located at 1816 Portland Ave. Minneapolis MN 55404.

About PEACE HOUSE COMMUNITY

Location:

1816 PORTLAND AVE, MINNEAPOLIS, MN 55404, US

Mission Statement

Peace House Community (PHC) is a gathering place to belong for economically challenged and marginalized adults in the Twin Cities that is open from 9:30a-2:30p. PHC achieves its mission by offering services that: nourish the community members’ bodies; nourish our community members’ souls; and enrich the lives of our visitors, volunteers and students.

Description

Peace House Community is a small community center/day center serving the Ventura Village neighborhood in south Minneapolis Monday-Friday from 9:30a-2:30p. Our community members live in the neighborhood and face economic instability, housing uncertainty, social isolation, stigmatization, and similar daily challenges. PHC counters these conditions by providing a safe, welcoming, and affirming community that gets to know its members as individuals.

PHC gives its community members the same experience that most people feel when they hang out in a friend's living room. There is always hot coffee, snacks and a hot lunch. There is no pressure, no need to justify oneself, no invasive questions. Coming to PHC means experiencing acceptance and a respite from the chaos of life on the streets.

PHC serves over 18,000 meals a year and provides a variety of services each day including bicycle repair, hand massages, haircuts, clothes mending and more. Most importantly, we provide a space for volunteers and community members to meet, establish relationships and share a common humanity.
