Looking for a meaningful way to give back? Join Best Buddies Michigan’s Washtenaw Citizens Program and help create a more inclusive community through one-to-one friendships with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).


We’re looking for volunteers (ages 18+) who are:
- Passionate about inclusion
- Local professionals, post-college adults, UM/EMU grads, or retirees!
- Ready to connect, have fun, and grow
As a volunteer, you’ll be matched in a one-to-one friendship, attend monthly group events, and get ongoing support.
- Must be 18+

Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Our programs empower the special abilities of people with IDD by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
  • Attend monthly chapter-wide events, and when paired with a buddy, hang out with them at least one other time a month, while maintaining weekly contact.
  • Must complete our online membership application, background check, and phone screening.
